Groups & Classes

Arts & Crafts

We have various arts and crafts groups that meet in different locations, these groups are informal and aimed at all levels. You can bring along your existing project to work on or get inspired by others to start a new project. We welcome all ages and encourage the sharing of ideas and skills whilst enjoying a relaxed atmosphere together.

See our Diary of Events for details of the different groups available.

Exercise Classes

Regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight helps promote well-being and helps prevent illnesses like strokes and heart disease as well as improving balance and mobility.

The Northern Fells Group runs weekly some regular Tai-Chi and Walking groups - We also periodically get funding to run classes led by qualified trainers, at local village halls and other local venues. Check our monthly Diary of Events for updates.

There are also other local classes (yoga, Pilates, etc.) advertised in parish magazines and on noticeboards.

Our diary of classes and events is updated regularly with dates, times and venues of our groups:

Friendly Walkers

Walks are open to everyone, whether you currently walk or want to start. Our fortnightly walks range from under 30 minutes (ideal if you are recovering from ill health) up to 90 minutes and our longer walks of up to 6 miles are held monthly. Walks run on different days of the week.

Here is a quote from one of our regular walking group ladies:

I really do enjoy the afternoon walks, for many reasons, as I’m sure we all do, friends gather together, lots of chatter (and not just about the weather). I’m often telling others that it is one of the best things I’ve joined. Well done and thank you to you special people that make this happen, keeping us active and healthy”             Gillian Marr

See our Diary of Events for dates and times of all up coming walks, and contact details of the Friendly Walkers Group Leaders.

Lunch Groups

lunch groups provide the opportunity for people who are isolated to get out and meet up with friends and neighbours or make new friends in the Northern Fells Area.

Transport can be arranged to help those no longer driving. Some lunch groups are held in local restaurants, pubs and cafes, and some are in community halls and are run by volunteers.

See Diary of Events for latest dates and times and who to contact for your nearest group.

Pre-booking is essential at the lunches so please ring and book your place well in advance.

Please see DIARY OF EVENTS for further details.
